Cybersecurity IRS 1075 Policy Assistance – Unemployment Insurance

Project Brief

When the Internal Revenue Service updated security and audit requirements for Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and state and federal tax information, it was Wostmann that helped the State of Alaska meet compliance. Our team worked with the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development, which is responsible for the state’s Unemployment Insurance program and systems that manage and protect sensitive data.

Wostmann assessed existing security and audit policies and procedures against these updated requirements and assisted the state agency in developing or modifying procedures as identified by the assessment. To do this, Wostmann carefully analyzed the IRS 1075 requirements and then performed a detailed crosswalk to existing policies and procedures, both formal and informal. For each deliverable identified through this analysis, Wostmann developed a detailed plan for accomplishing the updates or new deliverables, including approach and time estimates. Wostmann then worked closely with department staff, in some cases creating new policies and in others simply updating what already existed.

Deliverables

  • Wostmann’s expertise and capacity in cybersecurity and audit procedures resulted in the Unemployment Insurance program successfully meeting compliance with the IRS requirements
