Alaska Division of Retirement and Benefits Payroll System

Project Brief

The State of Alaska (SOA) has over 20,000 employees and operates a payroll system that delivers approximately 16,000 paychecks every cycle. Our team designed a system for the SOA Division of Retirements and Benefits that serves not only state employees and Alaska’s 220 political subdivisions ranging from municipal governments and school districts to tribal entities, but also 40,000 active and retired employees whose retirement and benefits must be tracked.

The Wostmann team provides support for the Division to perform its responsibilities through business processes designed to satisfy information gathering, validation, data retention, tracking, audit, financial, and reporting requirements. Our team has led or been involved in every aspect of DRB’s core business systems by providing analysis, design, development, testing, and maintenance phases.

Our team developed and administered a new, enterprise-wide system to address several core business needs. In one case, we developed a new system to serve as a single source of truth of member demographic information. Our team developed applications for employer payroll, personnel management, health benefits administration, and reporting to third-party administrators. We have established long-term consulting relationships, worked closely to understand expansive and nuanced business requirements, developed new applications while maintaining and modernizing legacy systems, and maintained sophisticated data interfaces with third-party systems.
