Who We Are

Wostmann and Associates, Inc. (WAI) is an employee-owned IT consulting firm headquartered in Juneau, Alaska, with an additional office in Anchorage and remote staff across the Contiguous United States. Founded in 1984, WAI has spent over four decades providing software engineering, technology integration, system analysis, project management, quality assurance, and information security services to state and federal agencies and private-sector clients. As a federal HUBZone-certified firm, we deliver practical results for our customers through the informed use of information technology and a solid understanding of business needs, culture, and technical environment. We seek people with a combination of programming, consulting, and business experience.

About the Role

We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Technical Project Manager with a strong technical or engineering background to manage a portfolio of client engagements, primarily software development and consulting projects. These engagements vary in size and complexity, with broader oversight on some and direct, hands-on ownership of larger, more complex initiatives on others. The ideal candidate has experience managing software projects of at least mid-range complexity, particularly within public-sector enterprise environments, which represent the majority of our client work. This role works directly with clients and development teams, providing hands-on technical leadership from solution envisioning through execution.

Depending on the engagement, job duties may include:

  • Manage a portfolio of concurrent client engagements, providing broader oversight on some while taking direct, hands-on leadership on others.
  • Lead clients through solution envisioning, business process mapping, and technology strategy discussions to help shape product vision.
  • Facilitate requirements-gathering sessions (e.g., Joint Application Development, or JAD, sessions) to elicit needs, priorities, and scope directly from stakeholders.
  • Own Agile and iterative delivery ceremonies, including backlog management, sprint planning, and fit-gap analysis.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, and risk across the full project lifecycle.
  • Lead and mentor internal and client-facing development teams, including junior team members.
  • Communicate progress, issues, and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Write and review technical documentation, including requirements, specifications, process flows, and test plans.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation package

  • Full-time opportunity

  • Medical and dental insurance

  • 401k plan

  • Paid holidays, vacation

  • B.S. degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent hands-on technical/engineering experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 8+ years of project or program management experience, including hands-on experience as a software developer, systems analyst, or technical architect earlier in your career.
  • Demonstrated experience personally facilitating Agile ceremonies (e.g., backlog refinement, sprint planning, JAD sessions), not just overseeing them at a governance level.
  • Demonstrated experience leading clients through solution envisioning and technology strategy, translating business needs into technical designs.
  • Experience managing a portfolio of concurrent engagements, ranging from lighter-touch oversight to hands-on ownership of larger, more complex projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new technology stacks, languages, and frameworks, along with the underlying business processes they support.

Soft Skills

  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, with the initiative and creativity to identify pragmatic, results-oriented solutions.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively across technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PMP or related project/program management certification preferred; Scrum/Agile facilitation certifications (e.g., CSM, PSM, PMI-ACP) are a plus.
  • Prior experience as a consultant, particularly on large enterprise software projects.
  • Experience working with State and Federal agencies operating in Alaska.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP, or Oracle Cloud).
  • Graduate degree in a technical, management, or science-related field.
  • This field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.
  • Max. file size: 128 MB.
