We helped consolidate data gathering for the Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission from hundreds of users across Alaska, enabled more current and accurate reporting and provided single-point access across multiple agencies. We designed and developed Alaska’s electronic fishery catch reporting system (eLandings) used by seafood processors throughout the State. It is a distributed data collection and reporting system accessed over the web from remote locations or from ships at sea. eLandings provides data import and export for seafood processors, single point data entry and validation for several state and federal agencies and real-time interface with the Individual Fishing Quota (IFQ) system. We have continued to update and enhance the system for several years. The project involved batch interfaces with legacy systems, XML-based schemas, Java, Jboss web application server and Oracle databases.
Our team provided database design and development services to the United States Geological Survey (USGS) to improve data stability and integrity of the Southwest Alaska Network (SWAN) Inventory & Monitoring Program. The solution provided more efficient data processing, easier data validation and consistent use of data in the field. The project required building familiarity with field data on intertidal invertebrate and algae, sea otters and black oystercatcher and regular interaction with field biologists and resource managers. The work involved revising field data entry forms and look-up tables to conform to program specifications, evaluating and designing a database to improve data integrity, creating of reports to perform data validation and synchronizing and replicating data for use in the field and offices of USGS and National Park Service.
